Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) held the prize distribution of literary competition has organized on the occasion of International Mother Language Day 2023. On Monday  BAU Sahitya Sangh has organized the programme in the student-teacher center conference room of the university around 6 pm.

The programme was chaired by president of BAU Sahitya Sangh Prof. Dr. Fatema Hoque Shikha. In the programme university student affairs advisor Prof. Dr. Khan Md. Shaiful Islam was present as the chief guest. Proctor of the university Prof. Dr. Md. Azharul Islam was present as a special guest. Other members of Sahitya Sangh were also present on the occasion.

It is known that this year the competition was held in three categories. The categories are Book Elocution, Bookography and Write to Mother in Mother’s Language. Among them ‘Mother’s Language write to Mother’ category was for foreign students whose are studying in the university. Prizes and certificates were distributed among the winners from three categories on the occasion.

In the speech of the chief guest Shaiful Islam stated that, there are 70 thousand languages in the world. In 1952, Pakistanis wanted Urdu to be the mother tongue of the country. But the people of this country did not accept it. So mother tongue has to be acquired with blood through movement.

He also said that, no man can express his thoughts properly without his mother tongue. Only through mother tongue we can express our feelings hundred percent. Each mother tongue carries the identity of its culture and literature. We should give equal status to all languages of this world.
